DS1302 REAL TIME CLOCK

The DS1302 Real Time Clock adds time keeping functionality to your microcontoller project. Keep track of time even if your microcontroller is reprogrammed or goes off.

This RTC can be used for logging data, building clocks, adding time stamps to your data, for alarms, timers and more.

The clock/calendar provides seconds, minutes, hours, day, date, month, and year information. The end of the month date is automatically adjusted for months with fewer than 31 days, including corrections for leap year. It ecan even operate in 12 or 24 hour formats.

With its  built-in power-sense circuit, it is able to detect power failures and automatically switch to its backup power supply.

The clock operates in either the 24-hour or 12- hour format with AM/PM indicator. The DS1302 has a built-in power-sense circuit that detects power failures and automatically switches to the backup supply. Timekeeping operation continues while the part operates from the backup supply.

Even though the DS1302 is simple and easy to use but not very precise. It could lose or gain up to 4 minutes every month, but for most projects that is not a problem. However if you want a more accurate clock, check out the DS3231.

Note: The DS1302 uses a CR2032 coin cell battery which is not included and must be purchased separately.
